Coming up on the 27th March is UFC 111.
2 Huge reasons to tune in are Frank Mir Vs Shane Carwin, and perhaps the biggest fight at Welterweight for some time.. The Champion, Georges 'Rush' St. Pierre Vs The Heavy Handed, Dan 'The Outlaw' Hardy.
Everyone knows of GSP, he is one of the biggest names in MMA by far, And each time he fights its usually a great event. His last win over Thiago Alves was fairly easy, never really being threatened by Alves, although injuring himself during the fight, GSP took the fight on points. Dan Hardy is somewhat of an unknown in the MMA world, but has shown he has the technique and skills to win fights. Mike Swick and Marcus Davies couldn't stand in his way of GSP. With a record of 23-6-1NC and on a 7 win streak Dan Hardy looks to upset the Champion and take his Welterweight Crown.
Frank Mir the 2 time Heavyweight Champion takes on Shane Carwin for the Interim Heavyweight Title. Frank Mir, coming off very convincing win over Cheick Congo, is probably on an all time high. Weighing 265lbs and in the best shape of his life with fitness and technique will be very prepared for Carwin. Carwin on the other hand hasn't had a fight for over a year, where he knocked out Gabriel Gonzaga after being rocked, and will surely be very ready for Mir. Carwin, 11-0 in MMA, will be looking to shoot to the top of the Heavyweight Division with a win over Mir, and be looking to take on Brock Lesnar for the Heavyweight Title, which was supposed to have happened already at UFC 106 and 108, but Lesnar was unable to fight due to illness. Mir on the other hand is looking for his third fight with Lesnar, and second title match. Mir has bad blood with Lesnar after their last outing where Lesnar was mocking and shouting at Mir after the fight had ended. Mir has stated that he needs to fight Lesnar again to straighten things out and beat him for the second time.
Also on the card Welterweight contenders Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves go toe 2 toe to move further up the Welterweight ladder. Jon Fitch's last win over Mike Pierce wasn't very convincing, winning by Unanimous Decision, but was never really threatened by Pierce. While Thiago Alves' last fight was against the Champion, GSP, which he was controlled in, so he will be looking for a big win over Fitch this saturday.
All in all, UFC 111 should be a HUGE event, and I personally cant wait. Here is the Official Fight Card:
